As Renas de Papai Noel

A lenda das renas do Papai Noel foi criada em um famoso poema de Clement Clarke Moore (1779-1863). Clemente era filho de um bispo da Igreja Protestante Episcopal, em Nova York. O poema "A Visit From Saint Nicholas" (Uma Visita de São Nicolau) foi escrito como um presente de Natal para seus filhos em 1822. Atualmente o poema é mais conhecido pelo título de "The Night Before Christmas" (Véspera de Natal).

“Santa has eight reindeer, who magically pull his sleigh through the sky.
Papai Noel tem oito renas, que magicamente puxam seu trenó pelo céu.
They are named Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donder and Blitzen. [...] “

Segundo ouvi contar... Robert L May criou em 1939 a rena hoje mais conhecida: “Rudolf the red-nosed Reindeer” (Rudolf, a rena do nariz vermelho) para uma cadeia de lojas em Chicago.

Lyric:

Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer
had a very shiny nose.
And if you ever saw him,
you would even say it glows.

All of the other reindeer
used to laugh and call him names.
They never let poor Rudolph
join in any reindeer games.

Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say:
"Rudolph with your nose so bright,
won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"

Then all the reindeer loved him
as they shouted out with glee,
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer,
you'll go down in history!
